Considered by many one of the best LHP's in Orange County in the class of 2015, Patrick Sandoval is beginning to get the attention of scouts both college and pro alike.
Serving as the ace of the staff for Mission Viejo HS last season as sophomore, Sandoval showed flashes of brilliance with a repertoire that included a fastball clocked at 88 and wipe out curveball. The southpaw hit 91 with the fastball this summer pitching in the travel ball and showcase circuit.
I talked to one AL scout recently about Sandoval and below are his thoughts.
"He's only going to get better, that's the best thing about him." said the scout. "He sits high 80's, low 90's and you don't see that too often with lefties his age. His frame indicates that there is more in that arm than what we are seeing now. He has some mechanical kinks to work out and once he does, the skies the limit for him. He's only a high school junior which gets scouts excited. He's such a competitor on the mound and pitches in a pretty darn good league which will give him the opportunity to face some big time hitters to get him ready for the next level whether that's pro ball or college."
Below is a video of him facing three batters on Sunday, September 29, 2013.
