Erik Cha (Ayala HS) is a name you'll be hearing for a long time. The left-handed pitcher is beginning to garner the attention from college coaches that his skill sets deserve. There are several Pac-12, Big West, and WCC schools showing attention to the southpaw.
Sporting a GPA over 3.5, Cha is certain to have his pick of colleges when the time comes for a decision.
This past weekend Ayala took on Mission Viejo in a fall ball game which saw Cha get the start and he was nothing short of impressive.
Cha struck out four of the six batters he faced in his outing while featuring a fastball that sat 85-85, a 77-79 mph changeup, and a 72-74 mph slider. He threw all three for strikes and used each as a knock out pitch with two strikes.
I caught up with one Pac-12 coach who is currently recruiting Cha, below are his thoughts.
"He's a weekend guy the minute he steps on campus for us," said the Pac-12 coach. "He could, and should, develop into a legit ace. There's no question he'll continue to add velo to his fastball. His changeup is advanced already, and if he continues to improve that nasty slider, there's no telling where he'll go."
