The field for the 2nd annual Boras Classic has been finalized and, on paper, this field is as strong as last years. The tournament, co-hosted by JSerra and Mater Dei, has a SoCal field and NorCal field with the winners of each bracket facing off for the de facto state championship.
The 2014 SoCal field is:
JSerra
Mater Dei
Grossmont (San Diego Section)
Granite Hills (San Diego Section)
Bishop Amat
Gardena Serra
Cypress
Aliso Niguel
Glendora
San Dimas
Great Oak
Temecula Valley
Vista Murrieta
Valencia of Valencia
San Fernando (City Section)
Chino Hills
The inclusion of the two teams from the San Diego section is coup for tournament organizers as both teams are among the best in that section.
Glendora, San Dimas, and Cypress all have college level players on their rosters and bring the experience of playing in big games. Cypress is the reigning CIF SS Division 2 champions.
Aliso Niguel, Chino Hills, and Bishop Amat boast several Division 1 level players and a few players certain to hear their names in the next three MLB drafts.
San Fernando is the reigning CIF City Section champion.
Great Oak, Vista Murrieta, and Gardena Serra all have talented rosters heading into the 2014 season and should represent their areas well in the event.
JSerra and Mater Dei are among the favorites in the ever-tough Trinity League, often considered the best league in the state of California.
Updated: Thanks to the anonymous poster below for giving me the skinny on Temecula Valley. Looks like TV will be loaded this year after making a deep run last year. Thanks, anonymous.
