Prospects Focus: 2014 C Albee Weiss

Albee Weiss had a very good junior season that saw him begin to draw the attention of college recruiters while at Agoura HS in Agoura, Calif.

With a prototypical build for a college catcher, he had the luxury of batting behind some very good hitters which gave him plenty of opportunities to help his team out, which he took full advantage of.

Weiss participated in an MLB scouting event at JSerra High School this past weekend. The event drew the attention of several college and professional scouts and Weiss did not disappoint.

Showing great power and bat speed during a batting practice session the senior-to-be carried that over into game action where he was the starting catcher for the south squad.

Two Division 1 college coaches told me they were impressed with what they saw out of Weiss and will be following up with him to gauge interest in their schools.

"I really like his bat," said one college recruiter. "His defense has always been solid, but his hitting took off this year. It's going to be interesting to see how it progresses next year when he'll be the big stick in the lineup."

Weiss will likely be one of SoCal's top catcher prospects heading into the 2014 season.

Below is a video of his batting practice session shot on Saturday, June 7th.
