El Toro had only one baserunner through the first three innings against Oaks Christian pitcher Phillip Bickford (CG 5H 1R 6K BB). The future high round MLB draft pick got into a jam when after two straight El Toro hits he loaded the bases on with a walk.
With dozens of scouts in the stands, the 6'4" 200 pounder didn't blink. He struck out the first two batters on eight pitches including a foul. He then induced the inning-ending groundout on three.
Ryan Kayoda CG 4H 2R 1ER 8K 0BB) was equally brilliant in his outing. Oaks Christian plated an unearned run in the first before striking for the game winner in the top of the fourth, and that was on a wild pitch. The senior gave up only two hits after the first inning, both to Brandon Evans (3-for-3, R).
The win puts Oaks Christian in the semifinals to be played tomorrow. They will face the winner of West Ranch and JSerra which will be played at JSerra at 6:00pm.
