Orange Lutheran capitalized on six JSerra errors to open Trinity League play with a 7-0 victory on the road. Junior Garett King (6IP 6K 4H) notched his first career league win to run his record to a perfect 3-0 on the season.
"He's our ace and we expect big things from him," said Orange Lutheran head coach Eric Borba. "He's just so efficient with his pitches. He had the off speed pitches working tonight and he just pounded the zone."
JSerra committed four errors in the first inning alone spotting OLu a 2-0 lead. King would retire the first 10 batters he faced against the Lions who have scored eight runs in their six games this season.
"It's a great feeling when your teammates get you a lead at any point in the game." said King, a Nebraska commit. "It's really nice having a lead before you've thrown a pitch."
JSerra, already playing without first baseman Dane McFarland who had surgery to repair an injured hamate bone, was forced to scratch Quentin Longrie from the pitching start due to general soreness giving senior Zach Gloyne (4IP 6H 4R 2ER) the start instead.
"I was pleased with his outing," said JSerra head coach Brett Kay. "It's a different game if we don't boot the ball all over the place in the first inning."
Orange Lutheran scored two more runs in the fourth inning and the sixth inning before adding one run in the seventh to close out the scoring. Offensively, the Lancers were led by seniors Brad Rinehart (2-for-3, 2R, RBI), Matt Stumme (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Travis Blue (2-for-5 1R).
JSerra (2-4, 0-1) will play St. John Bosco on Friday at JSerra. Orange Lutheran (6-2, 1-0) will play Servite (2-3-1, 0-1) on Saturday.
