Santa Margarita swept a double header versus Mira Costa on Saturday by winning 11-2 and 12-3.
The Eagles were led by senior Tony Bone in game one as he belted a pair of home runs and finished the day 3-for-4.
The
Eagles broke out of the gate with six runs in the first three innings en route to the blow out. Mira Costa never threatened in the game.
Junior Griffin Canning
had a nice outing on the mound for the Eagles going 5 3/2 innings of
work allowing no earned runs, walking one and striking out two. Canning
is expected to be one of two frontline pitchers for the Eagles this
season.
Tyler Halleck and Austin Ponzi chipped in a couple hits each for the Eagles.
Game two saw more of the same for the Eagles as they coasted to a 12-3 win behind five strong innings of work from Dillon Miyashiro who allowed zero runs on one hit while striking out six.
The Eagles offense continued its hot start getting three RBI's on three hits from senior Josh Meyer. Josh Canty, Corey Mendoza, Tyler Halleck, JJ Carr, and Bone all added hits and RBI in the game for the Eagles as well.
The Eagles scored three runs in each of the
fifth, sixth and seventh.
