JSerra v Aliso Niguel Game Wrap

Caught up with JSerra head coach Brett Kay today about his teams game versus Aliso Niguel. Last nights game that ended in a 5-5 tie but provided Kay with a lot of information about his team.

"I thought we played extemely well for being off from games for a month," said Kay.

This was the first game action for JSerra as they get back into the swing of things after Christmas break.

Led by sophomore Quentin Longrie, the pitching staff could end up being a strength for the Lions who have the luxury of having anywhere from six to nine guys they run out on the mound.

"I really like our depth and think that with their continued progress they should be fine." said Kay of his pitching staff.

In the first of 24 winter ball games between now and the start of the season, JSerra used several players to get through the game with mixed results.

"Offensively we have made strides in our approach," said Kay. "Their is some really good competition for our varsity guys."

Stuart Rough was 2-2 for with 2 RBIs and Jake Rutherford was 2-3 with an RBI.

Kay reiterated that the best thing to come out of these winter games is the opportunity to how his players react to game situations.

"(It's just) fun to see the kids compete," said Kay.

JSerra returns to the field this weekend as they travel to Great Oak HS in Temecula. The Lions will face Bishop Amat and Great Oak.
