Orange Lutheran Sr. LHP Matt Hammonds took a no hitter into the seventh inning against Bishop Gorman before giving way to a reliever to get the final out. Hammonds has had his best summer-fall/winter ball progression and looks like the leader in the race for the number two spot in the rotation. RHP Garret King, a Nebraska commit, is the teams ace.
The southpaw struck out nine while giving up three hits and one run in 6.2 innings.
Hammonds has matured a lot from a lanky lefty who had a crazy curveball and not much else as a freshman, to a guy that is in the best shape of his life and is pitching at the highest level of his career.
The event at Pepperdine is being played in conjunction with Palisades HS, where games are also being played. The event began today and concludes on Monday.
