In what is becoming a great recruiting opportunity for schools, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo this weekend is hosting a four team event featuring teams from across southern California.
One of those teams was BPA, who I had a chance to see last Saturday. They have some guys playing who weren't playing last week but I've had a chance to see with their high school teams.
Below are some notes on guys that stood out in tonights 5-1 win over the So Cal Outlaws.
2013 - Taylor Adkison - Mater Dei HS (Santa Ana, Calif.) - 5'11" 175 OF/1B - I saw Adkison a couple weeks ago against Harvard Westlake's Jack Flaherty and I was impressed. The senior has done nothing to change that. He continues to demonstrate he can handle the pitching, finishing 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. He brings plus speed as exhibited by his 2 triples and 2 stolen bases. His smart & aggressive approach at the plate has paid off in terms of consistency. He's going to be tough to keep off the field in the spring.
2014 - Louis Raymond - Dana Hills HS (Dana Hills, Calif.) - 6'2" 175 RHP/OF - The righty had a solid outing last Saturday against a team from Palm Springs. Tonight he threw 2 shutout innings to close the game out. He was consistent - wasn't good; wasn't bad.
2014 - Jared Zill - Capo Valley HS (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) - 6'2" 185 RHP - I have not seen Zill in person but I had heard about him. According to reports, Zill sat mid-80's tonight and finished with 7 strikeouts and 1 earned run over 5 innings pitched.
2014 - Chase Calabuig - Capo Valley HS (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) - 6'0" 170 LHP/OF - I saw Chase last week on the mound, tonight he was in the OF. He finished 1-3 with an RBI at the plate. He showed a decent arm from the outfield on Saturday. At the plate he has skills which will play at this level.
2014 - Shane Timmons -Capo Valley HS (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) - 6'0" 170 OF/3B - The junior finished 1-2 with an RBI. Word is Timmons is a lock to start somewhere but the question is where. He brings a strong/accurate arm and has playable skills at the plate.
