The semifinals are set in CIF SS Division 1 baseball playoffs.
Coming off an upset of #1 seeded Orange Lutheran, West Ranch will play Corona, which defeated El Dorado. Corona is the hottest team in the tournament having made it to the semifinals as a wild card team. They handled USC signee Kyle Twomey to advance to their first ever semifinal appearance. West Ranch got a huge lift from freshman Jagger Rusconi whose two-run ground rule double was the difference in the game versus OLu.
Mater Dei scored five runs in the third which was more than enough for the Monarchs to avenge last years quarterfinals loss to Esperanza. Ty Moore was simply Ty Moore. He struck out 12 en route to a complete game victory. The Monarchs advance to face Newbury Park in the semifinals. The Panthers used a complete game from Luke Eubank and great team hitting to advance. Eubank struck out 10 and walked none in a sterling performance. He also added three hits at the plate. The Panthers defense was on display as several highlight catches were made throughout the game.
Both semifinal games will be played at Blair Field in Long Beach with a ticket to the finals at Dodger Stadium on the line. CIF SS is expected to announce team assignments on Saturday. Be sure to check back for a full preview of the semifinals on Monday.
