Mike Zunino paced the Florida offense going 4-for-5 with a solo homer and two doubles. Tyler Thompson chipped in three hits of his own and Nolan Fontana added to the multi-hit game parade for the Gators. Hudson Randal got the win going 5.1 innings while giving up four runs on seven hits.
#2 Stanford 4 Fresno St. 7
The Bulldogs score four in the sixth off Mark Appel to take lead for good and hold on. The Cardinal managed only five hits but were gifted a couple of errors by Fresno State. Junior Justin Haley earned his first win on the season for the Bulldogs.
#3 South Carolina 3 #13 Clemson 2
Gamecocks score two in 11th on a pair of two-out RBI base hits to take the first game in what many consider the best rivalry in college baseball. This was a pitcher/defense duel with each team managing only one run through the first 10 innings. Clemson's rally in the 11th fell short despite two errors by the Gamecocks.
Mich. St. 3 #5 Texas A&M 7
Michael Wacha was impressive pitching seven innings striking out seven while giving up two runs on eight hits with one walk. Mikey Reynolds, Tyler Naquin, Matt Juengel, and Blake Allemand all had multi-hit games for the Aggies. Michigan State pounded out 12 hits but left 10 men on base in the game.
USC 1 #6 UNC 11
Cody Stubbs leads UNC offense with a big day at the plate finishing 4-for-5 with an HR, 2 doubles,
3 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Kent Emanuel was solid on the mound for the Tarheels going 6IP 0R 8K 2BB. USC did manage to pound out 11 hits but couldn't seem to capitalize.
Texas Tech 1 #7 Arkansas 3
Arkansas starter Ryan Bates had a career-high seven strikeouts and gave up just one run in seven strong innings. Sam Bates had a two run home run in the first that proved to be difference in the game in a game being played at Minute Maid Park as part of the Houston College Classic.
Maine 0 #8 Florida State 6
Three Florida State pitchers combine to throw a shutout over outmatched Maine. The Seminoles scored six runs on nine hits but left seven men on base. Sean Miller's three-run triple in the second proved to be the game winner for the Seminoles.
Rutgers 2 #9 Georgia Tech 16
Georgia Tech pounded out 23 hits against six Rutgers pitchers en route to the blowout. Georgia Tech scored in five of their eight offensive half-innings. The Jellow Jackets scored seven in the seventh to put this game out of reach.
Local Teams.......
Oregon beat Long Beach State in the bottom of the ninth on a throwing error by shortstop Matt Duffy. The Dirtbags had tied the game in the seventh inning on an Ino Patron RBI single. Oregon left the bases loaded in the eight before cashing in on the error by Duffy to win the game. The teams will face off today in game two of a three game set.
Ivory Thomas charged Cal State Fullerton past Utah Valley State 6-1. Thomas was spectacular going 3-for-4 with an RBI while also scoring two runs. Dylan Floro put in a strong performance for the Titans as he gave up three runs on five hits while striking out two in eight innings. The Titans will look to win the series today as the teams meet at Goodwin Field.
Baylor scored four runs the first two innings and they were enough to beat UC Irivine 4 - 2 in game one of the QTI Baylor Classic. UC Irvine scored a couple of runs late but they were unable to get enough as the Baylor bullpen closed it out late. UC Irvine had a chance to redeem itself and it did as they pounded Lamar 17 - 0 in a QTI Baylor Classic game. The Anteaters were led by a Kyle Hooper and his complete game shutout. Hooper struck out 10 while only giving up four hits and walking one. The offense was paced by Jordan Fox who had a career high four hits and six RBI. DJ Erumlich was 3-for-6 with 3R and an RBI. Leadoff hitter Spencer Connor was also 3-for-5 with 2RBI. The Anteaters will play Baylor again today and Lamar again tomorrow.
